Illinois Lawmakers Looking to Crack Down on Rule-Breaking Truck Drivers

Large semi-trucks and tractor-trailers travel the roads of Streator, Illinois, and everywhere else, every day. No matter where you go, you’re likely to cross the path of one of these large vehicles. Trucks are a necessary part of life as well as most business industries. That’s because just about everything we use in life must at some point be delivered by a semi-truck. While most truck companies do everything in their power to make safety a priority, accidents still happen. When a truck is involved, these accidents tend to be much worse.

Many truck drivers do their best to make sure that other vehicles on the roads they travel are safe; but sometimes truck drivers aren’t careful enough. When they choose to drive carelessly their actions can cause serious injuries and in many cases death. That’s why lawmakers and law enforcement officers alike continually work to ensure that truck drivers adhere to the rules. To that end, lawmakers in Illinois are pushing for harsher punishments for those truck drivers that break the rules and cause injuries.

According to reports, a new bill that calls for stricter punishments for truck drivers who violate driving rules and cause an injury recently reached the Illinois House. The bill would provide harsher penalties for any driver who caused severe bodily harm or death to an emergency worker who has responded to an incident scene. The bill would cover all first responders as well as any pedestrians.

Hopefully this bill, if it becomes law, would help reduce the number of truck drivers who violate important trucking rules, such as how man consecutive hours they are allowed to drive and other similar regulations. No one should be the victim of a careless truck driver who is not practicing the proper safety procedures while on duty, especially emergency workers who have responded to an incident to help someone else in need.

Truck drivers must make sure that they are obeying all safety rules on the road.
